Posting the ears
Ear Care : When you receive your puppy , he/she will already have their ears posted. Leave this posting on for 7 days. Then remove by soaking the tape with baby oil first and it should come right off with out taking the hair off of the ears. The crop was done approx. 2 weeks prior by Dr. Lower , the stitches are out and they are mostly if not all healed except for a pink edge where the crop was done. Once you take the posting off you will need to clean the ears with anti-bacterial soap and water. I use wet paper towels to do this. As a precaution apply neosporin to the cropped edge of the ears for the next two days. The ears will most likely droop within a few days and need to be re-posted. Don't be discouraged if this happens it is a normal part of the process. You will need to re-post them and leave each post on for a week at a time as long as the ears look good. Notes : If you notice a discharge or bad smell coming from the ears while posted then remove the posts immediately and clean the ears thoroughly. This is not uncommon but requires immediate attention. After cleaning the ears apply neosporin twice a day and leave the posts off for at least two days or until the ears look normal and non irritated . The posting process can be irritating to the ears so you should check them daily in order to spot any possible problems. Sometimes the edges will look crinkled where they are cropped , that is normal too and will smooth out with postings. You can expect approx. 2 to 4 postings , 1 week each before the ears will stand permanently. Posting : Our method of posting consists of wrapping a pop sickle stick wrapped in a paper towel with white bandage tape wrapped around that sticky side out. Place that stick in the bell of the ear and apply tape from the top of the ear to the base with strips of tape. Apply the tape from inside to outside and do not flatten the natural fold of the ear. This is a flap of skin on the inside edge of the ear. Also be sure to not pull the tape tight as this will cause the circulation to be cut off and will damage the ears. A piece of tape can be applied to the top part of the posts to hold the ears in place. If the ears fall to the inside when you take the posts off then leave this last step out when you re-post to allow the ears to swing out.
